i am looking for a lift for my 98 explorer. i would like to do a 2 inch body and a 3 inch suspension but the suspension kits are so expensive and there is not many out there. if anyone has a used suspension lift please let me know as soon as possible i would like to fit 35s on it if i can. if anyone has any input that would be great

turn your plan around and do a 3" body with a 2" susspension they you can get away with a torsion twist and an add-a-leaf and warrior shackle in the rear... get it all done cheap and spend your savings on those tires, but I think this will only clear 33's... maybe 35' with fender trimming

I wouldnt recommend 35's unless you plan on re-gearing

yeah no lol ill prob just throw on some mean 33s. how much you think that lift would run for? with out rims and tires

I did what youre looking to do, along with a ton of other people here. I got my BL and shackles for just about $300.

Although a body lift is a quick easy lift I'd recommend a full suspension lift. Yes its expensive but you'll get more out of it rather than a body lift.

actually not really because of the torsion bar drop brackets for the 2nd gens. you dont gain any clearance because those move down right along with the suspension. tires get you the clearance

True, Dang drop brackets!

i dont wanna do a body lift. yeah its quick and saves alot of money but whats the point in it? i want a suspension for muddin and what not

neither body lift nor suspension lift gain you any ground clearance.

the front crossmember only gains ground clearance by getting larger tires.

the rear axle pumpkin gains no ground clearance, unless you get larger tires.

the torsion bar brackets only gain ground clearance by installing larger tires.

the Superlift suspension lift doesn't give a better ride, or anything like that, since it re-uses the torsion bars. So you still have the same amount of wheel travel and same ride.

The RCD lift, if can be found used, will definitely help with the ride due to the swap to coilovers, and removes the dragging torsion bar mounts.

the only 2 downsides (imho) to the 3" body lift is the steering extension, and the fact that there will be greater tension on the longer body mount bolts in a crash.

upsides to a body lift is, much much much easier to access O2 sensors from below the vehicle (no needing to rip out carpet, center console, etc). Much much much easier to remove the t-case to transmission bolts if needing to remove the t-case (no needing to rip out carpet, center console, etc). Much easier to change out spark plugs through the wheel wells, too.

that sounds good i think im gunna do that but it is a lil confusing for me to understand

ok I made a couple mistakes and it's been buggin me... lol.

a suspension lift will create ground clearance at the frame, and increase the ground clearance at the torsion bar brackets.
It will also increase your approach and departure angles.
But differential ground clearance is only affected by tire size. And of course you can also get hung up on the lower control arms and u-bolts on the rear axle.

a body lift only creates room for larger tires. Your approach and departure angles are somewhat increased if you relocated the bumpers, but the frame prevents those angles from being the same as a suspension lift provides.
