i've got '97 xlt AWD v8, and it needs some new tires and wheels, and a lift kit. the only lift kit that i've found for it is superlift 4" suspension lift, $1800. why is this so expensive? can i get the clearance i need by doing anything else?i thought there used to be a 'how to' on lifting these explorers but i couldn't find it, maybe somebody could get a link for it? that'd be great.
thanks,
andrew

You could do a body lift, which lifts the body off of the frame enough to get you bigger tires, which would give you a bit more clearance. The body lift leaves everything at the same level it was, except for the body, so you would only be gaining more clearance by the bigger tires. It's a helluva lot cheaper though - the kit for the 97 will run you about $160-170 to your door - but it has its drawbacks (more frame showing, less clearance than a susp. lift, worry about stretching lines, cables, etc).

If you run a search on "body lift" you will find more information than you will know what to do with. It's been discussed countless times. If you have any other questions, reply here - I just finished my body lift like 3 weeks ago. :D

how high do you want to go??

susp. lift help!!

does anybody have a link on a 'how to' do a tt and aal. i've looked all over, i can find bits and pieces of what i need to know but i really need a step-by-step, and pictures would be awesome. part numbers and costs and where to get them would be great too.. i'm already going to do the PA 3" body lift, and i'm wanting another 1-2" out of the suspension. and i drive a 97 xlt awd v8 if it matters.
thanks in advance
andrew-
