Lifting 3rd Gen with leveling kits??

Hello, I own a 2005 Ford Explorer XLS and i was wondering if I could use leveling kits to lift my entire truck. I understand that leveling kits are generally only used for the front of the vehicle but since the 3rd gen explorers have rear independent suspension I was wondering if i could put the leveling kit on the rear suspension as well to create a 3" all around lift. Im not sure if this will really work but it makes sense in theory. Any insight will be appreciated.
