Can you drive that beast on the street?!

Some of the others are way bigger than mine, but I haven't had any problems yet.

In NY I think they can get you for bumper height, headlight height and how far the tires stick out past the fenders.

I tried to get a definitive answer from DMV and the Police, but nobody seems to know for sure what the law is. :p

So unless they carry a tape measure and actually find a number to go by- I'm good to go! :D

i have used mine as a dd for almost a year now sas'd. the only real problem i have had with my ex sas'd is that the transmission went out on me. but i did have about a 115,000 miles on my ex so it was bound to happen anyway. plus all the wheeling i did didn't help either.
but it is true what cdsl227 said. An SAS'ed EX is definitely a head turner! :D

I live in KY and as long as the tires are dot approoved you can run any height, size or whatever you want. You can even run AG(tractors tires so long as the speed limit of the road your traveling is under 55....meaning no interstate running....but hey who would drive over 35 on highway with tractor tires?

The only requirement in NY is the distance between the frame and the ground can't be bigger than 30"

fury u got an awesome rig, im runnin the 4in superlift on my ex right now with 33s and sometime around christmas i plan on swapin in a dana 44 in the front, wont be quite as big as yours, stickin with the 4in suspension in the rear and 5in in the front but just to be cruisin with the straight axle in the front on a 99 is good enough for me

*falls down in worship* wow i am impressed and speechless. Badass ex man.

what did u do with your steering fury? bc as far as i know i wont be able to use steering stabalizer after i install my solid axle due to the rack and pinion steering, chances r the steering wont be that bad using dana 44 and 5in lift but still interested in my options, thanks

thanks for the comments

to my knowledge you will not be able to use your rack and pinion steering with your dana 44 swap. you will have to set up a whole new steering system.the one i decided on was a crossover steering setup where the drag link is connected to a hy steer arm on the passenger side knuckle that also sits above the leaf springs . i have had it like this for almost 2 yr now without any problems. (i have some pics of my steering setup in my sig below)

here is a link i used to research some of the steering setups that are availible as well as the pros and cons of each.

http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/Steering/Steering_Research/steeringresearch.htm

also remember that you will need to purchase a steering box from either a early model explorer or ranger as well as either modiy your steering shaft or have one made for you.

hope this answers some of your questions

thanks fury that site u gave me will really help out, how much did your steering setup alone run u?

show pics of the steering box i am in the middle of an sas now pics of box would sure help thank you

hey all you austin guys?

I'm new to the Austin area (ceder park)and am getting ready to do my sas here soon.would you guys like to get together some time? I would really like to look at your truck as I'd like to build something similar. Pm me if it sounds like something you guys would like to do.

I have not done a SAS, but I live in lake travis, like 20 min from cedar park. I am planning on doing one in the future, as soon as money permits haha. I would love to come up and help, or go wheeling would be fun, let me know. Also there is a SAS sport in round rock at a shop that I saw, my friend knows the guy that owns the shop so I might be able to get a hold of the owner of the truck.

Im Down in the SW area of Austin. Near Mopac and William Cannon. Current project is my 92 Explorer 5.0 swap and after that I will be SAS a 93 Limited.

It all sounds great. If you need any help at all on your swap just let me no I have tons of tools and I am a mechanic by trade.
