Livernois tune experience

Hey everyone, sorry we've been away for so long, however I will be monitoring this site now. So to answer a few questions that I have seen come up....We do lock our device, no doubt, we don't want people to be able to get in and get our software. A couple things that set us a part from some of the others that send there stuff out with canned tunes is, we will constantly update the tuner with with latest revisions we have anytime we add performance and make a calibration better. There is no charge to our customers for that. We allow the customer to change the calibrations as many times as needed without a charge. Our tuner does data log and also shows real time data for those that want to watch specific gauges as they drive. If you do sell your vehicle and want to put the tuner on a new vehicle you own we charge $150 to do a vehicle transfer to the new vin and clear the tuner of the old one that allows you to now take advantage of all our calibrations for your new vehicle at no charge. Now let me ask a question to those with the ST, have any of you used the Stage 4 tune on E40? 450 whp and 520 rwtq it's crazy. If you haven't, send your tune request in now and upgrade to the latest tune. If anyone has questions please let me know

Sorry Im still a little confused.......I was told the Livernois Mycalibrator Tuner I had for my 2017 Sport doesn't have the RAM required to support tunes for the 2020/21 calibrations so its a paper weight now.

Was I misinformed?

That's the problem. Sell yours used for $200 where the new person has to pay $150 to unlock. No reason for someone to buy used equip at a cost of $350 to them when they can buy new.

X4, sell used for $200, only have to buy the tune and good to go. Same goes for all other equipment.

No other tuner that I know of locks it so "getting our software" doesnt sit well. Why isn't anyone else worried about that?

Not true.

Buy an HP Tuners MPVI2 or RTD for $500 ($300 device, $200 credits for your VIN). That does not include tunes. When you sell that for $200, a new person has to pay $200 in "credits" for their VIN. They don't call that "unlocking" but it is essentially the same thing. Credits are "locked" to your VIN. Then you need to shell out even more $ just for the tune.

And you have to watch out what device you buy. You buy an X4 and will find out you're limited in which tuners will support that. And if the device datalogging is not that good, your "custom" tune will not be as good as it could be. As far as hardware goes also, they all become obsolete at some point. Nothing you can do about that. Have you heard of anyone using their old MPVI with a 2020 Explorer? That's because you can't. Where I see some benefit of some devices is the ability to use it for multiple cars in your garage.

Here's a comparison:

NEW: Unleashed Tuning with MPVI2. $700 (device, credits, tune)
USED: $450 for credits and tune alone. Add whatever you paid for a used MPVI2 device... probably only worth $100-150 honestly.

NEW: Livernois MyCal Touch with tunes. $600
USED: $150 (reset VIN and tunes). Add whatever you paid for a used Livernois device...$200?

Tell me again why Livernois' policies aren't fair?

Sct3 and sct4 were never locked. All you had to do was buy the tune for it.

Livernois ALWAYS had their device locked all throughout the 5th gen tuning times.

The $150 for Livernois is to unlock the tuner. That does not give you tunes, you still need to buy them from my understanding. So you buy the used device, pay the unlock fee and then buy the tunes. If the unlock fee gave you the tunes, I agree it isn't as bad as it used to be I believe you do not get them included.

The SCT devices have a limited number of VIN uses, five PCM's, they attach(record the VIN/PCM(whatever)) to each one and the owner can swap to another a total of five times. The fee of $150 is to restore the limit back to five.

I gather that the Livernois devices will retain the paid for tune, and that can be reused for a new vehicle. But that isn't going to be ideal for most people's new vehicle choice, thus new programs needed. But the canned tune is different from a dyno tune, they may let you have all of their available tunes, but is that the best for your vehicle?

If you have our old tuner that is the little grey box with the green screen then yes you are correct. That tuner we give you a $200 trade in credit to the Mycalibrator touch. If you have the Mycal touch you are good to go no need to trade in.

No you do not need to buy them once you pay the vehicle transfer fee. Once that is done all the calibrations for that vehicle are free and you can change them at any time with no fee. You pay $150 that is it nothing else

I am happy to report that the latest Stage 4 Livernois performance tune can now display gear all the time ie. D1,D2, D3 etc. instead of just "D". You just need to make the tune request. My previous Stg4 tune was V5 and the new one sent to me a few days ago says V10. I feel like the shifting has also been further refined. I am super happy they continued to improve and spent time on this platform!
