Has about 230k kms/ 142k miles on the clock, doesn't need any mechanical work apparently.

My question is, I've been around these parts alot years ago when I had a couple of 1st gen explorers.

Is the transmission a known problem as much as the first gens? What are some things I can check on this rig?

GAS MILEAGE: What sort of real world gas mileage are you getting on a stock sport with stock tires? (I do alot of mixed driving)

Thanks a bunch fellas!

Is it the SOHC or the OHV model? I have the SOHC model and it gets around 16-17 mixed. As far as reliability they are both pretty solid. Regardless of what you have when you are getting that high in miles the transmission could become an issue if it hasn't been serviced. Also the SOHC is known to have timing chain issues, so if it is a SOHC be sure to listen for a rattle at start up, and around the 3k rpm mark.

Not sure if it's OHV or SOHC, trying to find that out.
