2005 Explorer XLT
Hi Guys,

I recently brought my 2005 explorer XLT to get an inspection. Upon the shop doing the inspection, they discovered the front pinion seal was leaking, other than that the car was fine. I had them fix that and the reset the computer and told me to bring it back when a drive cycle was completed to do emission. I drove it for about 200 miles and on the way to work today, i heard a loud crack noise from underneath right around where the seal is that was replaced. I pulled over, looked over everything (no leaks) and made it to work ok. Upon accelerating to about 45, it sounds like a helicopter from underneath (metal on metal, dont know any other way to describe it). I got it up to 50, and the noise pretty much went away. I brought it back to the shop and told them what happened, and their looking it over.

I do basic maintenance (brakes etc) myself, but this is a little out of my league. Any idea what it could be???? I'm leaning towards they caused the mishap because of the repair, i have never had any other mechanical problems before. The thing only has 70K!! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys!
