Sometimes I hear this loud "pop" sound when I have to turn the wheel hard right (like if I make a sharp u-turn). Does anyone know what this could be. It sounds like it's coming from the wheel well area below the hood. It's been doing this for about 1-2 months. '98 Sport 2WD...

If it could be something serious I wanna get it fixed asap. Thanks! :D

I have a 00 XLS 4x4. It has always made a popping or crunching sound when I take a hard turn into my driveway (which is up hill and over a lip into the driveway).

I figured it was part of the charm of owning a Ford.

Since its a 2WD, it could be a number of things, balljoints and/or tie rod ends.

Most likely a worn down radius arm bushing, I know that it is common on first gens not sure though on newer ones.

She has a 98. She has no radius arms. Definately take the truck to shop to have someone diagnose it. Unfortunately its hard to diagnose it without looking at it.

Grease the steering stops, easy to do, may work wonders.
Wellcome to the site

And how do I do that?? Spindlecone...Sorry, I not as "car savvy" as most of the folks on here.

Crank the wheel fully Rgt, shut the Ign off, in the pic on the lower arm the arrow points a large steel button so to speak (use the shock mount as refferance, just to the left lower), this is looking back of tire toward front of truck.
To the left of the button you can see the curved stop, slap some grease on both pieces, any old grease, turn the tires fully left and do the other side.
Not saying it will fix the problem but is a first line no cost thing to try, if they are dry they can bind, and pop

Thanks Spindle, I will try this and if this fails I will take it in to a shop. And by the way, the pic really helped.

If it helps thats good, if not still make it part of your maintaince program, is one of the few things that can be lubed on an ex anymore

Did lubricating this help or did you end up taking it to a shop? mine is doing the same thing.

Thanks,
Edd

I snapped a sway bar end link on mine. Just wanted to mention it. It is easy to check.
It made a pop sometimes on suspension compression.
