I have a 2006 4.6 Limited with around 150k. I purchased back in january. I've noticed this ticking sound that has been progressively getting worse. When start up on cold engine you can hear a ticking sound on right side. It sounds (to me) just like an exhaust leak. Weird thing is that you can literally count to 20 or so and the ticking completely goes away. So again, my first thought is exhaust leak, but I should still hear something even at warm up. Anything else that may be causing this? I am new to the 4.6 so I am not aware or familiar with any problems associated with this engine.

Exhaust manifold leak, check for broken studs as they are prone to snapping on their own.

I remember my dad having a couple broken studs on his v10. Will have to see on mine. Thanks
