The boot on my truck's lower steering shaft is cracked. I suspect the OCCASIONAL rattling noise on my steering is coming from the joint under the boot. The parts number on the factory service manual states the lower shaft part # is 3CWW2 and the bolt is W710570. I found an old discussion (Steering wheel click/rattle noise) stating that:
Bolt: 2 ea. SPO W715479 S439
Intermediate Shaft: SPO 8L2Z-3B676-B
Are the parts number still valid? I just want to confirm the part# are still good today. Thanks for your help.
Also, the Ford service manual states that I should use the steering wheel holding device during the shaft replacement so the clockspring won't get damaged. Has anyone replaced the shaft without the holding device?
Thanks for your help!!
