Does anyone know if the lower thermostat housing has a gasket between it and the block? If not should you use any type of form a gasket to keep it from leaking ? I put a new housing unit on several months ago and now its leaking where the block and housing meet, or its cracked . I cant remember if there is a gasket between the two.

yes there is a gasket

there is a gasket. check your 3 bolts that hold the housing to the block...they arent torqued down very hard...so they are more prone to coming loose. was getting to my lower housing yesterday to replace that short hose that goes down to waterpump and my very front bolt was loose as hell...but no leak underneath.

My question is: since i've removed the t-stat lower housing...do i really have to replace that gasket now that i've removed the part? it looks to be in good shape...but its pretty much flattened out. and i dont think its a gasket you can buy by itself...think you might have to make a gasket or cut out a gasket.

Opinions???
