M5OD swap questions

I just got a m5od the was re-built and had the 5th/revers update kit for under $700. Got it on ebay. So you can always go that route

About 5-6 years ago i was looking to rebuild the 4.0l in my Ranger. Every rebuild kit I saw or asked about was listed as 2 options "manual or auto trans". No one could tell me the difference and the prices were the same. I guess this was the difference.

But I can tell you I did a few auto to manual swaps in 4.0l trucks. One of them went atleast 150k miles without any bearing problems.

thats reassuring. ill ask around see what else i can find out. but otherwise did you run into any problems?



the tranny isnt completely messed up. it leaks oil from a seal in between the bell housing and the block. so i fugure rather then pay to get it fixed, id finally do the tranny swap.

ok well i got some money, so imma go tomorrow. can i use a 2wd tranny? or does it need to be 4wd?

Save yourself some time and just get a 4wd transmission if you're 4wd.
