So after trials and tribulations with my magnaflow ive decided to try something different. I came across the MAC cat back, and i might give her a try. It seems to be a good deal, and i love the fact its a DYI bolt on system. But i have a few questions for those of you who own them...Whats the sound like first of all (i want a louder system than my magnaflow muffler)? Performace(increase throttle responce or HP)? and how easy is it to get on? (Time and modifications) Whats the quality like (Rust over time, durabilty?)

Any help, suggestions or just reveiws would be great. Thanks.
Also is there any advantages of ordering a mac cold intake with the cat back?

None. Mac intakes work equally well with any exhaust system. Heck, any air intake works equally well with any exhaust system. Try making your own. As I always say, don't skimp on the filter if you go this route.

I seriously doubt you will get anymore sound with the MAC exhaust as opposed to the Magnaflow. When I had my Magnaflow put on just a few weeks ago the shop had cut the muffler off and then moved it to a different lift that gave then more room. I have headers and it was not that loud as the four cat converters really effect the sound as they muffle a lot of the sound.

In my opinion you will just be waisting your money.

Mine sounds great I also gutted the two rear cats though

was that hard to do? ive read up on this and heard its supposta add alot of sound to your exhaust..

also how hard was it to install your cat back?

It is easy to gut a cat, cut it out or bolt on depending on what you got, and chip away all the clay filtrationout.

But be aware, I did that originally to mine and after a day it kept throwing codes at me because of it. So I replaced with a hi-po cat and the code went away.

i have a 99limited 5.0..
i thought the rear cats didnt have 02 sensors? how do they throw codes?

I used an Electricians wood boring bit (old one) with the screw on the end and kept going in until all of the mesh and fibre was out.

IMO pre-fabbed "CAT BACK" systems are a rip off. Just find your local red neck/hillbilly muffler shop that does good work and have them do a custom install. I would go with a FlowMaster Delta 50 if you want more sound. Or better yet, you can't get much better than a pair of short glass packs for loud sound and performance. The shorter the pack the louder. The longer they are the more growl and less noise. My guy did one true duels on my 5.0 from the cats back to the bumper even ceramic coated the whole thing for 250.00 out the door. Sounds great! I would put it up against a Gibson, or MAC any day! Now I have a set of TMH's going on and a set of 1.7 roller rockers. I can NOT wait to hear that thing when it fires up!!! Also, I have Thunder bolt HI-Flow cats on rear and just ordered a set of HI-Flow cats for the front! I had to go with Magnaflow on those! They were the only ones that made one that will fit under the truck. Go to car-sound.com and look up part number 99185HM. those are the ones you will need for the front cat position. This thing is going to RUMBLE!!

Mines a 96 4.0, and when I gutted it, not even a day later a got coded. Read the code, and it would pop up everyday on a run. So I replaced the cat with a Hi-Flo cat and code never came back up again.
