My transmission and slave cylinder took a crap so I dropped the trans and I'm having trouble fiinding a 4wd replacement unit. My friend said we can get a 2wd trans and remove the extension housing on the end and it will bolt right up to the tcase. I really don't think that's true and its impossible to findd the two trans beside each other for comparison. Also if that's untrue can I replace the 2wd housing with my 4wdd one off my broken trans?

As far as I know that is accurate. The extension housing is different. The trans is the same. You can take off your 4x4 extension housing & put it on the 2wd trans.
The output shaft may be different though. Not sure on that one.

A M5OD shouldn't be too hard to find..

The 2wd main shaft is different then the 4wd. You have to disassemble most of the trans to swap the shaft.

got a 2wd off a 2.3l ranger, glad the starter is on the oppisite side its like a mirror image of my transmission?

Not a chance it would work right?

agh 100 bucks wasted, CL time

Nope, not a chance. Sell it or trade it.
