I tried replacing the map lights in the 1998 mountaineer and they melted the plastic and completely screwed up the map light area. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, where can I get the correct light - what size and one that doesn't melt the map light area, please.

Thanks

I tried using a sylvania 912 I believe in the map light location which burned the plastic. Are we sure a 168 or 579 will work? Thanks

So, I initially replaced the lights with 921s which burned the interior up. I tried replacing with 168s as per above, which were too small (98 and 99 must have different set-ups). I replaced with 912s and those seem to work thus far. Different Voltage and Wattage.
