Mark VIII fan install in 5.0 Mountaineer?

I've done some reading on electric fan installs, many fail, some prevail. I saw mentioned that people have used a Mark VIII electric fan and it worked. What year Mark VIII should I be looking for in the junk yard? Is this fan thermostatically controlled, or am I going to have to buy a controller? How many wires come off of the Mark VIII fan and does anyone know where I can look up the wire colors? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Why are you looking for an electric fan? In the quest for HP, I will never give up my engine driven fan for the few HP you will get back. It simply moves more air and the tight confines of the explorer engine bay needs all the cooling it can get!

It's a great write-up. I've also heard of using the two-speed electric fan with the factory control module from a 3.8-liter Taurus/Sable but I don't know where a write-up is on that.
