My '96 Eddie Bauer has the climate control type of AC/heat. The fan will only run at high or on max AC. If I turn the fan down or set the temp to a warmer setting, the fan turns off but the compressor stays engaged. Is it the electronics, the fan motor, etc.??????????

To start, I would clean the interior temp sensor. Just to the right of your radio is a half-dollar sized little "grille" with slots on it. Pry that cover off, and clean the sensor inside with a Q-tip with some rubbing alcohol.

See how that helps, if any.............

BTW: Welcome Aboard!!! :)

Welcome aboard!!! Heh...what a coincidence. I had the exact same problem a few days ago and found out that it was the blower controller unit was the fault. You can get a revised part along with a new wiring harness which you need to cut the old plug and splice in the new one at the dealer for $120. The unit is located at the blower motor on the passenger side of the vehicle. If you need some guidence changing that unit, please let me know.

Thanks for the tips guys. I was hoping it was the sensor. It wasn't. It was plenty dirty but it did't help soooo, Billy, where exactly is that blower controller unit. Under the dash or hood? What does it look like? etc. Thanks, Mike.

Mike, the blower motor controller looks like this:

And its location is right here:

The blower motor is located under the hood at the passenger side of the vehicle. Look toward the firewall and you'll see a drum like thingy. That's the blower motor. In order to remove the controller, you need to remove the cruise control controller right in front of it. Then move the windshield washer and coolant bottles forward. You'll have more than enough space to replace the plug and the controller. Deep sockets are required to remove the nut to the washer and coolant bottles and would help a lot to remove the nuts to the blower motor controllers. I hope this helps. :)

Typically the cause of this is the resistor on the blower motor. The resistor is a replaceable item, you don't need to replace the entire blower assembly.

Brad, EATC doesn't have resistors to control the blower motor. It's controlled by the blower motor controller. I had the exact same problem a few days ago. I went to the dealer and paid $15 for a new resistor and it didn't even fit in there. I took it back and the parts guy said that the EATC systems have a controller that costs $120 instead of a simple $15 resistor. That controller is at the exact same place as the resistor with the manual control A/C units but since it's an automatic climate control system, Ford used the controller instead because of the variation in motor speed instead of 4 fixed speeds.

Thanks Billy. I knew there was a reason EATC was a pain in the a$$. :D

Billy! You are my hero. Got the part, put it in, BINGO!! Problem solved. The ford dealer said it would cost about $80 bucks to figure out what the broblem was. Then he would have replaced every component in the system$$$$$$$$ and acted like I should be gratefull. This web site is the best thanks to you and people like you. I feel like I should pay for your kids college educatoin but I'm shure it will pass. Thanks again, Mike. You will be hearing from me again.

Glad it worked for ya. Bill is right. But I can't say anything b/c I still don't have the money to pay Rick yet. In a few weeks, that's when I should have a little bit of money to pay to upgrade my status.
