Hi everyone, finally going to do a SAS but I have a question for you. For those of you who went with the D44- would you go with a dana 60 in the front and back if you could do it again and had the resources to do so? Tire size and lift height will be limited by the setup in rear (SOA + 4" superlift springs + warrior shackles + 3" body lift). It has to be daily driveable and the tires can't stick out past the fiberglass fenders when finished.

D60s up front are hard to find, and probably pretty expensive...

D60 in the rear are stump catchers. A 609 combo is pretty sweet, 9 inch center section and D60 outers! Do that!

But, hell yea, go for it and post some pictures!

If you're planning on a tire larger than 36-37" and like the skinny pedal go for the 60.

Tire size isn't usually limited by the rear, especially on a sport. It's the front and turning the tires. And ~14" of lift is effing hugified!!! Are you sure you don't live in Florida? I've got 36s with about 4.5 - 5" of lift in the rear (SOA with saggin/bent stock springs).

I've broke my stock d44 shafts twice in 2.5 years (once on 35s and once on 36s) on some easier stuff. If you have the recourses to get the 60s go for it.

And wouldn't you have to narrow both axles to keep the tires inside the fenders?

Thats true for at least the front axle except the really narrow D44s like the one for the EB (and the likes).

Right, i was just referring to 60s, i don't think i've heard of them coming in narrowed widths.

AH gotcha, yeah you're absolutely right on that.

scored some axles

I just got both axles from an early bronco off ebay for 180 bucks, all steering and brakes included so I couldn't pass it up. I'll sell the rear and pretty much make my money back- an almost free narrow d44 is better than an expensive d60, plus I just committed to buy a 1971 LTD convertible for restoration so that lowered my budget a little!

dana 60's

I never ended up getting those bronco axles. I just got a set of dana 60's from a 1970s ford truck. Any advice on 3-link vs 4 link vs radius arms vs leaf springs? Figure I will need a lot of lift and still want to drive it on the street.

sale on the eb axles never went through- problems with shipping
