Miss under load

I've literally read this entire thread to see if he got it out, my head wasn't anywhere near that clean when I had the hex round off on one of my plugs in my 2000, I've been happier fewer times then when I was holding the plug in my hand, I still have it too.

Tip of plug was in shop vac.

Truck is running strong and clean, except for a little pinging climbing hills. It didn't do that before. I'm thinking spark is still weak?

Codes are P0351 and 0352

Stick a set of new coils in it. They're not that expensive. Under $18 each on RockAuto, or about double for Motorcraft.

already did.

should i put the old ones back on, apparently they werent bad since the new ones didnt improve anything right?

A bad coil will create a notable miss, either constantly or varying. You could swap the old ones back if you think it's that different, but they are very reliable or good/bad. I've had one bad aftermarket coil pack, an Accel less than 5000 miles old. All coil packs are close in performance.

An FYI for those on the fence in changing plugs because of costs, Rock Auto has Autolite Iridiums for $3.89/ea and Autolite has a $3/ea rebate going right now, puts cost under a buck each before shipping and tax (if applicable). There's also $2/ea for double platinums and $1/ea for platinums, for those that like the different flavors, AC Delco has same offer as well. It's mail in type, not my personal favorite, but still the cheapest act in town I've found for getting new plugs. https://www.rockauto.com/lang/en/promoCat.html#autolite

Here through a good friend I get the Autolite Plats for $20 a set, handed across the counter, that's what I put in my engine going into the Eddie Bauer, and since my 2000 developed a miss today at idle, which I tested with an extra plug to be plug caused, I'm going to snag another set. I've always had great service out the Autolites, never had but one issue, that was the rusted round plug, but I imagine that had more to do with the little pop in fender liner being gone on that side.

When replacing the Motorcrafts, I get 4 plugs warranty'd out and the other 4 at employee discount. (20%). :D

That is a great deal Redmanss. Thanks! Gives me a reason to try iridiums for a change.

@Zekester

Some more ideas:

A bad PCM grounding wire could be giving low voltage or maybe another bad ground somewhere. Hows your battery-to-body ground wire look? I read some others that said crank position sensor caused coil fault codes?? I dunno about that one but might be good to check when all else fails.

Yes, grounds and wiring connections need checking more on older vehicles. My newest vehicle is my 99 mail truck, I'm kind of used to older cars. They have special needs.

Thanks.

As soon the weather turns hospitable again I'm going to go over it again.

It's running really good right now though

I've been knocking on wood as I drive mine to work every day for 18+ months(159k miles to 195k now). I drive the h### out of it constantly, and rely on my high maintenance work to keep it going.

Did you replace all 8 plugs?

No

There's some apprehension there lol

Did you do all 8 wires? It’s not going to run well with 7 garbage plugs.

They give you an honorary ASE Certification if you can extract a broken plug without damaging anything. I'd say you're qualified to remove the other 7.
They do? Where's mine?

Ditto, it's a good time to spray the others well with penetrant, and let them soak a while. I'd take the time to buy some Kroil, I got it from Amazon for about $12/8oz, and a cute squirt can for the same. It works great to squirt onto joints before loosening them, your plugs really need to be replaced.

They do? Where's mine?

They forgot to send you one?

I'll tell you a secret...ASE Certs can also be found inside every box of....
