My '96 XLT just lost its hood latch striker. At this time the only thing holding the hood closed in the safety catch. It looks like the striker that engages the latch part on the body just fell off.
SOLVED: Looking more closely and watching the hood close towards the lower latch, I see the "striker" is just the plate in the bottom of the hood. I adjusted the rubber bumpers on the front corners of the hood and it latches fine now.
Side note: is there a way for the the author do delete a thread they wrote?
