Apparently the last time I got an oil change, the mechanic never put the dipstick back---so I've been driving without one the past few months. I assume I've probably lost some oil through the opening, but my concern right now is checking the oil. I was going to change it this weekend.
1--how do I check my oil between now and when I get a new dipstick? I'll probably find someone on my street with an explorer. But what would be a plan B assuming I can't find anyone?
2--the dipstick shaft formed a hard crust about an inch or 2 in. How can I safely dissolve/remove that? I (gently) poked at it with a needlenose pliers and its pretty damn hard.
Your advice is appreciated
