A/C? whats that! hahahah I will ahve A/C this year, I will.

If you dont you can get away with wearing lots of white shirts, keep 5 gallons of ice water strapped in to the passenger seat, and never let the squirty bottle of water leave your side.

Can we say night run?

I don't have AC, but will have lots of ice water, and tube doors :D . oh yeah, and a new transmission
It can't be THAT hot can it??

Well... we've seen picture perfect days and we've seen 103 degrees in early June. I'm in the same boat with tube doors.

aww well, I guess it's just the luck of the draw once you get out there. a few of my friends went out there for Easter Jeep Safari, and they said it snowed like 2 or 3" so, it seems very unpredictable. we'll just have to wait and see

That was 5 years ago now right? Also the same year that Tom and Bill both  ?

thats potato salad hill there? Almost saw Micheal roll over there in 02 I beleive, my first time when I saw the lifted Explorer's my jaw dropped that year......I keep coming back!
Rick was there in 02 and it was orange so that photo is older then 02 I can tell you that much :)

I'm in for sure. Can't wait.

Yep that was 5 years ago, and Bill rolled about 200 feet away from there. That was before my rear glass, paint and 35s. I went up Lion's Back that year.

I haven't seen a pic of Rick's X looking like that for a long time.

Hard to believe it's been 5 years.... :o ....Yeah that's Potato Salad Hill and probably the best action shot I've ever taken, lol.

I remember Bill rolling real near to it, but don't remember when Tom rolled.... he rolled a lot, so he probably did that year too :D

alright, well I guess since everyone else will be at Canyonlands, I suppose I'll stay there too.
I have a question. Since I have never been to Moab, and I don't know the trails and how they are compared to Colorado, will I be able to do Golden Spike and Moab rim? I will have a locker in the rear, I have an LS up front, sliders, etc. I think my limiting factor when I go out there will be my tire size.
Let me know what you Moab veterans think.
thanks

Found a pic of Tom's roll (tip over). I don't remember what trail it was though.

rino351, the limiting factor in Moab is clearance, not traction - there's unheard-of grab on the rocks. Your locker and L/S will help tremendously of course but your sliders and skid plates will be absolutely essential on either of those trails if you're on 32's. I did Moab Rim with less suspension lift than you have but with 33's, and I absolutely destroyed my undercarriage on that trail.

One inch doesn't sound like much in tire size, but if you could get around to justifying an upgrade to 33's sometime this year, I highly suggest doing it before Moab, not after. If your 32s are getting old and have already lost a lot of tread/diameter, you really need to get some 33s - but if your 32s are new, then I'd agree with Colin, you're probably fine. But I do think that used 32s (which would really be 31" or less) are really pushing it on either of those trails - they are both rated 4+. You need clearance on both trails, all you can get.

yeah, I was debating that with myself over whether or not to get some 33s, but I am going solid, but I won't get it done before Moab and I'm going to 35's so 2 sets of tires in one year would be pretty harsh on the wallet. My ProComps are fairly new. They still have very good tread life left. Probably still around 17-18mm
I have enough projects going on with the explorer to get it ready for Moab as it is, so I won't have the solid axle, but many other mods.
I'll have to run this through my head some more.

well heck, why don't I just get 35's now, and cut the hell outta my fenders? duh, I'll still have to debate with myself

You'll probably be fine with newer 32s - I'm the shortest BigDawg and still do okay, but my lack of much suspension lift is one reason I took so much trouble to go to 35's to compensate for it.

The only thing that makes me wonder is all of the ledges and rocks on Golden Spike - there are uncountable dozens, maybe a hundred or more (that can grab differentials) and so which require tire size no matter the suspension lift. Colin's probably right and maybe someone else will also chime in and confirm that you should be fine - there's only 1/2" difference in the diameter between the tire sizes we're talking about. There's several Explorers in our group that have run Golden Spike but I don't know of any that did it on 32s. I hope if someone ran it on 32s they will see this thread and post their experience.

Moab Rim is another matter. You WILL drag on it on a few of its ledges and those ledges are offcamber that tilt you mere feet from a several-hundred foot drop. I can almost guarantee you that you'll need a strap - at least twice that I can think of - but if you're going SAS and 35's you could do that trail easily. I'd wait another year to do it instead of taking the chance of sitting puckered in your vehicle after your 32s hung your diffy solidly on an offcamber ledge that is leaning you over to a fascinating view of the Colorado River several hundred feet directly below.

For those of you that haven't signed up yet, remember there's a sticky thread to signup for this run at the top of this forum! Also PM me your phone number and if you're willing to share it with others on the run, as mentioned in that thread.
Thanks!

with 32's you will be okay, but for your first time in Moab dont try to pick trails to run ahead of time. Show up and see what other trucks are going on what runs and choose a group, 32's and a locker will get you plenty of fun places in Moab and give you a nice taste of what its all about. There are some parts of the trails where you are thinking wow this is alot like Colorado but then about 5 minutes later you are like Wow I have never even thought about climbing anything like that before, you cant be serious, then the guy in front of you climbs it.

We can drive out there together, I am one of those guys who can't sign up till the last minute though (work priorities), I plan to be there, I have been every year at least once since my first time in 01? or 02 cant remember, it's only 6.5 hours or so from Denver and once you go you will want to go back, as often as you can....

I haev some used 33's with about 1/3" tread left if you are interested, they were good tires, wore evenly, and served me well in Moab. They are Remington Mud Brute 33x12.50.

Wow, Moab explorer run again already  Seems like we were all just there. I just went to Moab 2 weeks ago and had a blast except for the snow on my tent ;) Here is some pics of what you might be up against on Moab Rim but Golden spike has changed alot on the last year so it might not be that bad for you. Well, I'm going back in 3 weeks if anyone wants to go or I'll see you all there for the run.
