MoabB2's Body Restoration Thread

Thanks :D
My project is not Completed yet.
You can see it at my site: www.RatStangRestoration.com
(The site is just a Draft, So the pictures are not in order, or Captioned.)

Its the 1965 Early Production Mustang. (The RatStang.)
I was not able to get any pictures of it at the beginning.
But if you look at the Next project. the 1966 at the bottom.
Lets just say, The 66 don't come close to how mine started out.

But the RatStang has been in the Family since 1965. Been through three generations of Richards.

Ok, it's been a while since we had an update. Ratstang has been working hard on it and putting in some long nights.

I saw it this past weekend and the center white section was complete. He was just starting to tape off the lines to lay the blue. I was impressed with the white, not too bright, yet not an offwhite. Kinda a grey white...? It looked nice though.

Since Saturday, Ratstang has sprayed the remaining body in blue. I have yet to see it, but he says it turned out well. Sounds like the blue color pretty much looks black, unless you catch it just right in the sun. Sounds good to me.

Ratstang still needs to spray the clear over the top, and then do all the buffing. All in all, the paint should be completed shortly. I can't wait to see it.

I went ahead and ordered that new valance and new black grill, and black headlight bezels. And I hope that ratstang hasn't forgotten about the trick FX4 decals I had made.

Moab in 4 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lets get this baby back together.

in your sig that AODE should be AOD-EW or 4R70W correct?

I wasn't aware it should be aod-ew...

But it is the 4r70w.

Oh, W for wide ratio...?

yes, they never called it the AODEW, when the AODE was fitted to the 4.6L (or in your case Exploder 5.0L) with the wide ratio gears it was renamed the 4r70w

wow that is the prettiest thing I have seen in a long time!

The sides are not buffed yet, Do too the chance of damage while putting it on.
But everything went on better then planned and only a few spots are going to have to be fixed.

It is bigger Josh. Looks a lot more leveled out even with out the weight over the Rears.

I forgot how huge it was. About a 3/4s an inch taller in back and about 2 inches up front.

Richard

Hmm haven't been on since around 9 AM yesterday Morning...

Well since I had to Fix and Clear Both Driver Side and Passenger Side Quarter Panels and the Engine Compartment because of Scratches from Re-assembly.
I figured what the hay I might as well prep the Jambs and Clear the whole Shell. (Except the Roof)

And after I got the whole vehicle Masked. I figured I wasn't going to mask a Whole Vehicle just to fix a few small spots. So I Re-did the Stripe and Fixed everything. :lol

Anyway.
The Driver Door Opening is Done.
The Passenger Door Opening is Done.
The Windshield Opening is Done.
The Driver Quarter Window Opening is Done.
The Passenger Quarter Window Opening is Done.
The Hatch Opening is Done.
The Whole Engine Compartment is Done.
Both Driver and Passenger Cowl Side Panels are Done.
Both Driver and Passenger Pillars are done.
I fixed the Hatch, Painted it and Cleared it.

Got just about everything to Build the Rest of the Body Mounts. Correctly (I don't know what Kind of person Builds a kit that does not have any Hardware...)

Going to Re-Assemble most everything before I finish the Sides.

Debating when the best time to put the windshield back in is.

The Body Restoration is pretty much done other then I got to Clean up and Finish the Radiator support and the Front Valance.

Pretty much just Re-Assembly

Well the engine is back in... What a PITA...
If I had to do it again the Trans would go in before the engine.
I don't know if it is possible to put the 302 in with the Trans and Transfercase all connected, While the body and Radiator support is on.

It took close to 5 hours to get it competely in, There is only an inch of play once you get it about half way in there. Had to shoehorn the POS in there. And trying to keep it from screwing up everything in its path. I was probably hanging on that stupid thing for at least 45 minutes at a time trying to get the POS to stay off the firewall.
With all the work we actually got it in with minimal damage. Really the only thing it did was while we were putting it in the Hoist chain swung and hit the Cowl to hood edge. Put two chips in it. But the chips are just over the top edge so you will see it with the hood is closed. It is just barly bad enough to have to fix, But just small enough to be a PITA to fix.

Well I got it out to wash it off. (In 24*F weather of course.)
Trying to show how the Buckingham Blue pearl (Black Base, Blue Pearl metallics) Show as black in even light shade and looks blue in direct sunlight. Pretty neat color. But is one of the hardest colors I've came across to take pictures of.

Only the first two stages of Buffing are done so you can see the buffing scratches in it.

That reflection is sick, I can't believe that isn't a mirror.

Glad to see the 5.0 back in it's home again.
