I just completed a 1000 mile trip in my 99 V6 SOHC. The first 500 miles were on conventional crankcase oil and tranny fluid and the last 500 were after a complete oil filter change ( to Mobil 1 ) and a tranny fluid change - also to Mobil 1.
RESULTS: ffirst 500 miles ( at 80 mph- all hiughway driving )= 17.1 mpg. The final 500 miles ( also at 80-85 mph, highway only ) = 19.32 mpg.
Next step is to chamge rear end to Mobil 1 too.

What kind of millage to others get? I have seen posts indicating over 25 mpg on the road; is this for real?
Thanks....

um, i get around 13 if im lucky

13 mpg in town driving is about all I get on a good tank. But then I have a 4x4 (which gets worse mpg than a 4x2).

On highway I get maybe 16 mpg? But I have only recently changed to synth oil so I will have to see if I get better town mileage.

If someone gets 25 mpg on highway with a Explorer 4x4 I would like to know what mods you have made.

I just finished a round trip NY/FL 1200 mi each way with my 94 XLT and got a consistent 20 mpg. Cruise control 70mph interstate highways most of the way.
