mobile tv questions & advice needed

the only place where you will find good priced moblie audio is Ebay. i have saved 1,000s of dollars buying off of there for my car audio and others. audiovox is a very good screen that has excellent picture resolution. as for in-dash you are going to have to put up at least $700 for a nice one. i bought my cva-1003 alpine for 749$ let me tell you it was worth it to since it sells by me for 1200$. as for dvd players the little minature ones that are out of dash are the best buy period! pyle, farenihet, and blaukpart are all great products. they are awesome because you can take them out of your car and use them as a in home dvd player too! these usually run for about 190$-220$. size wise for screens i would not go with anything less than 6" since the smaller the screen the crapper the resoultion you will get unless you feel like spending 1200$ for a nice name brand. items to stay away from would be emerson and off brand knock-offs since there warranties suck and you basically get what you pay for. i have a audiovox 6.8 fold screen, alpine cva-1003 and a pyle dvd player which cost me only 1139$ including shipping. one more thing when buying off ebay try to stick to high feedback sellers and buying new stuff. if you buy used stuff you have a 50/50 shot of getting something broke or something that truely is as described. either way dont pay retail for stuff you can get on ebay dirt cheap!

TFT is like a laptop monitor that you can see from side angles. a dual scan screen is one that you can only see head on. i would hope that an indash tv is a TFT, heh.

yes if it is not tft its not worth buying as for ease to install depends on which model year explorer you have if you already have a overhead console all you have to do is install it where the dome light is. if you have an explorer with no console like mine did you will have to get a mini console these usually run 60-100$ or you can make yourself a home made housing with plastic and paint the plastic to match the overhead console color on it either way it is fairly easy to install as long as you know your electronically stuff. if not it shouldn't cost anymore than 30$-50$ to get install at a local audio shop.

yeah, but think what would happen if the airbag goes off. that would suck :p

when you install it in the steering wheel or passenger side dash, you have to disengage and remove the airbags. it's a common install. some people have the steering wheel monitor hooked up to an infrared camera mounted on the rear of the vehicle. it works very well for backing up at night.

Yea, I have seen Steering wheel screen install. They removed the airbag and then installed the screen. Then using the factory front of the steering wheel center made a cover for the screen so when not in use or when pulled over he just puts the center back on and looks normal. I wish I had a pic!

Hay you could take out your Speed, tack, and other guages. Get A-piller pods and mount them there. Then you can put like two screens in the area that the guages were!

Console Mounted Screen

I saw in JC Whitney not too long ago a replacement center console that had a screen that swung out from under it. Might be an option, it was vehicle specific, can't remember the exact price, but I think it was $400-$500. Has anybody else saw this? It was SteelHorse brand.

TV

I've got a tv you could buy cheap.. it's a reactor 5.6 dash mount tv with all kinds of controls.. email with a price .. it has rarely been used.. i'd mount it were you have your cupholders down on the console.. you could build yourself a custom dash for it..
