Mojave Road (NV/CA area) March 17-19 or 16/17th??

Just to see if anyone is interested in this. I have been wanting to do the Mojave Road for a few months now and I am thinking about going March 16 - March 19th or 20th. Camp somewhere that Sunday night and then do the trail starting Monday morning (Mar.17).

-------------------------------------------------------------------

This Trip is a go! Updated Itinerary as follows:

Monday, 17th: Old mine ruins outside of Laughlin, NV. Meet at 9:30 at the Laughlin visitors center (map pg 4 of thread). Drive to Cerbat mountains/mine and visit Mineral Park area. Also do the Chloride Mines trail (pg 61, Wells AZ guide book). If time do Secret Pass trail. Return to Laughlin area that night.

Tuesday, 18th: Start the Mojave Road. Meet at the AVI casino parking lot/ gas station just south of Laughlin. See attached maps. Primitive camping on the trail overnight. Meeting time 8:30-ish

Wednesday, 19th: Finish the Mojave Road. Camping place to be determined that evening, probably in the Calico area.

Thursday, 20th: Various trails in the Calico Mountain area, just North of Barstow. I return to Laughlin in the late afternoon-early evening to leave for home the next day

CB channel 3. Bring alot of water and enough gas to go approx 200 miles. Also be prepared for 2 nights of primitive camping.

back to original thread:

The Mojave Road is located between Laughlin, NV and Barstow, CA and takes 2 days to complete at a leisurely pace. Camping 1 night on the trail. This trail should be suitable for stock 4x4 Explorers/Rangers.

Info, pics and video of the Mojave Road:

After finishing the trail I would like to do a few more trails while out in the area. There are a few more easy/moderate trails close to that part of California that are a possibility - Calico area. Also there are a few remote ghost towns near Laughlin I would definitely like to check out.

So who is in?

It's funny that you would mention this, because Ritsui and I were just talking about Mojave rd. a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately I can't get the time off of work then, so make sure to get plenty of pics for us to see...

You may want to hit up Ritsui though...

Well if more people are interested and wanted to do it on the weekend I could manage to do it on a Saturday and Sunday since I have the Friday off to travel to there. I am just trying to avoid the weekend crowd, and I know that sounds stupid for a 130 mile long trail in the desert.

I have to find a few people to go with since this is not a trail to do solo.

Im flexable, just let me know.

Not at all. A huge part of this trip is the relative solitude and there's nothing like a caravan of 20+ Jeeps to ruin that

I prefer weekdays myself, but it if there isn't any weekday interest I can go for that also. If you do opt for a weekend, you might not want to pick the 22nd, since that is (I think) the date of a forum Arizona run.

\subscribed

Exactly.

I am pretty much locked into the weekend of the 15/16 since I have the time off from school to allow for travel as well as the entire following week: 17-21st.

I have never done the trail myself so it will be an adventure, hopefully a couple of us can make it! I do have the Mojave Road Guide and Wells' Southern Cal. Guide that has the road in it as well.

Well if you are willing to do a weekend, then I might be able to head out on Friday the 14th after work, and do the 15-16.

I too prefer weekdays, but I'm committed to some advanced training for work from the 10-28...

Well whatever date the most people could make it out would work for me.

I live in Bullhead(across the river from Laughlin), so let me know when you are going through town. I may not be able to get out to do the whole trail, but I may be able to do something local with anyone that wants to go.:salute:

Since my truck os out of commission, I think Sean (carlover) should carry a gascan for me & i'll ride my bike...:D

Lol, or just hitch a ride and bring a tent... The weekend of the 15/16th doesnt work for me, weekend after would be perfect though..

...subscribing...;)

I'm pretty sure I'm OK for the 16th through 19th . We should have 4+ trucks for this, so anyone who wants to do it needs to confirm .

Subscribing too, but i think i'll have too much school work...i'll see.

Excellent! 4-8 should be a good size group to do this trail with not too big and not too small.

^-- x2 .

If its on a weekend, I might get my brother to go.

And Brian1 -- I did not know you were a mod on OFN

I've seen the weekend dates and the mon. - wed. dates. What are the actual dates this is happening?

Looks like we will start the trail Monday morning the 17th and finish Tuesday afternoon the 18th.

I will be spending Sunday night in Laughlin as well as the night of the 18th and 19th after we are done so I can explore some ghost towns and old mining ruins near Laughlin
