Ok so I am right around the corner from 60 000 miles/100 000km. I am planning a major tune up soon, probably within the next couple of weeks.

I was wondering if it is worth buying Motorcraft brand parts over the other guys ( Purolator, AC Delco, etc.) I ask because my friend has a connection @ an automotive store. He can get me 50% off most parts.

However I was wondering if it is not worth my trouble to get parts such as a fuel filter, PCV calve, and serpentine belt, form labels other than Motorcraft. The reason being is the fit of some of these parts may not be the exact same as OEM parts. I really do not want to get a serpentine belt off of Ford, because they want something like $55 or so for it. I am sure the PCV valve is another one of those parts that I best buy from ford. And how about the fuel filter?

Can anybody shed light on anyone/all of these replacement parts. Thanx

The only things I think are a must to get from Ford are the plugs.

I've never had a problem.

As far as pcv, and filters, a company like purolator is fine though Motorcraft stuff has always performed flawlessly for me, so i dunno I guess it's fine... I agree with alec though, deffinately get the Motorcraft plugs, They seem to work the best longest ..i've had 6 Fords in my driving life, the 2 that had motorcraft plugs installed by me showed NO measurable wear after 100k of highway miles, i was impressed. I would think that any plug brand that you choose should be a platinum plug though, isn't the motorcraft replacement plug for the explorer a platinum plug?

the only plug I will STAY AWAY FROM are champion plugs. They should stay in the toolshed for the lawnmower :P

I've had problems with aftermarket fuel filters fitting properly but everything else I buy aftermarket.
