I have been cooking up a hypothetical project recently...

The 302 in my mountaineer is mass air, and I have a 351 in my 95 F150 (parts truck) that is speed density. I am wondering if you guys think it would be possible to swap the 351 into my Mountaineer and convert it to mass air with the parts from the 302.

I *think* it could work, I would just need to have the computer tuned for the different injectors.

What do you guys think?

Oil pan is different. You will need to fabricate an oil pan to fit your RBV front drive train and chassis
.
The oil pump pickup is lower in the 351. You would need to raise the motor mounts, and, clearance the engine cross member

No 351 had a cam position sensor. This will be an issue. You kinda need it

your gt40 headers will not fit the 351 heads, and if they did they wouldn't clear without completely modifying the Heater box.
The f150 headers will not work either.

There is more, but that should get you started.

That's all good info, thanks! The 5.0 is still good, no problems with it. I am just planning ahead for the future, as the 351 is just sitting there, and there is no replacement for displacement. :D

If your willing to go through all that, then why not stroke the 302 and blow away the 351?

In general, a stroker will have a shorter life span than a stock engine. The 351 will make decent power and good torque, as I am building an overland/expedition truck where reliability is a key component, as we will be doing thousands of miles loaded down and pulling a trailer. I don't need tons of power. I need reliable, usable power.

If you want, read through this, (1st and 38th posts specifically) and tell me what you guys think. Shows you how to convert a distributor 5.8 to an electronic distributorless system (EDIS)
