Mountaineer Conversion - In Progess

As most of you know, I got in an accident on the last weekend in Feb this year in San Francisco, and I'm just now getting around to fixing it up. So far, all the mounty parts are on, but a rollpan is on the way, as well as the airdam being fiberglassed into the bumper perm. New black paintjob expected next summer following the garaging of the truck.

This post is cross-referenced from another forum I post on.

Okay, so the other thread was nothing but talk about how it took almost a month to get parts... fun, not :P Anyways, today was my day off and spent the entire day working on it and taking it slow (doing it right the first time). I started at 7AM dropping by Galpin Ford for my Mounty grille and signal flasher relay. Later, I realized I needed headlight clips to hold them in, so I had someone run out and get me some.

First off, I'm never buying a grille off eBay again, not only because 2/3 come cracked, but the quality is CRAP compared to the one I got at Ford. Anyone wanting to do this... BUY YOUR GRILLE AT FORD AND THANK ME LATER! 99SportX... the bars don't even match, I can break the bars on the eBay grilles with my pinky... thank God the company refunded me the $$$ and let me keep these pieces of garbage.

Ok, so this morning:

.. And then my cam died. I had driven the truck down the street to meet the gf for lunch with absolutely no front end, was funny looking. I had the header panel, all lights, bumper, everything off, so illegal, haha. But ya.

And the trash, I took my anger out on that header panel and litteraly ripped it out of the car cause I couldn't get a bolt undone, was unreachable :P

I've yet to finish, but here's it all with all the new parts on

I'm going go rest for a bit, but that's it for now. This next week I should get started on fixing the airdam and glassing it to the bumper permanantly. Rollpan is being made as we speak. :]

Note: No, I haven't aimed the headlights yet, I'm waiting on 1 more clip and new bulbs tomorrow, so yes, I know.

Also, I never took pics of the prior damage cause I never wanted to have to see it, but I did take a video (weird?), here's the link to it, please save as to your comp if you wish to view it:

definetly looking good

Looks good there. Let me know what you think of the clear corners, I am living with mine stock until I see more of those. What headlights/bulbs did you use? Mountaineer headlights stock, are brighter than Explorer lights. Regards,

The silverstars work great in those headlight lenses. I was really impressed with the difference between mounty and X lights.

Yea I noticed that tonight... just stock bulbs are bright as hell, even the diamonds on Explorers couldnt compare I think. Well, I DID have xenon bulbs from along time ago in my old headlights until I dropped one, so right now, just stock, but I'm gonna pick up some silverstars for sure.

Bravo..... That looks sick. Congrats on the look.

That is sweet looking. I like the black. Looks nice good job on it.

That is Bad@ss! A 2 door Mounty! So sweet! How much longer until you are finished? Are you going to rebadge the rear to match the Mounty badging in front?

That's clean as hell. Why a new paint job? That one looks fine to me.

Any progress on this sweet project?

Marc, what kind of a wheelwell flare is that on the front fenders? Regards,

Stock 98 sport ones. I really like them, they're not as big as the EB/XLS ones, or not too small to barely make a difference.

I'm almost done with my bumper, got the airdam molded in, just got alot of sanding and painting to get done, and then I'll put it back on. HIDs are on the their way, and thanks to Ronnie, a pair of PIAA Pro90 fogs should be on their way soon. Almost! :]

Excellent, I didn't know that there was another, smaller flare. That might be the ticket for my Mountaineer. Is there a matching rear flare also? I need to eventually replace all of my wheel studs with longer, and stronger ARP studs, for the spacers. Thanks,

Yea, the rears stick out identically. Doesn't your Mounty have flares already? I thought so at least...

No, I have no flares. I am not thrilled with the two large factory versions. They are too big for my taste. I will be using the 99 Limited pieces though on my work vehicle. They should help to prevent mud from being thrown in the right window.

Good deal then, I'll look into those flares like yours, when I get around to some paint and body work. Regards,

update on things....
