Mountaineer fuel pump

Okay, i just bought a 1997 mountaineer with a 5.0 build date is 6/96
my fuel pump is getting weak. question is can i just put a new pump inside of the old housing? and can i put a bigger pump in it like a 255? i looked and didn't see one listed for it. so i didn't know if like one for a v8 fox body mustang would work in it or not. if anyone has upgraded to a bigger fuel pump in an early 97 please let me know what you used in it. thanks.

unless you can find a new wire harness for it ide get a new entire pump assembly from ford. from pump inside tank to outside tank connection- wire burns out at gromet in lid

i may be wrong but i believe explorer pumps flow more than mustang pumps to accomdate our torque

any pump should work if you get a adaptor for the plug, fuel regulator will send back any extra
