MountaineerGreen's 1991 D44 SAS

Originally, I was going to SAS my Mountianeer, but I want to wheel harder than I can with it. The body is too nice to risk on harder trails. My idea and thread here- http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=220691

Sooooo, I found a 1991 Explorer XLT. I think it has 96,000 miles, but may be 196,000. Its got some body cancer, a stuck fan clutch, but runs and drives fine.

I am going to solid axle this with my Waggy D44, run 35" + tires, 5.13's, welded or locked front and rear, chop the top, tube doors, dovetail the rear and more to be decided later.

I'm going to sell off the unneeded parts to help recover the cost of this.

Still in the planning stage- trying to decide what to do first. SAS? or cut the top, tube doors, roll cage and dove tail? The body cutting would be easier with it lower for certain. I have a month or two before I can buy gears, lockers, tires.

What to do first?

Ohh yeah- I've got to locate some radius arms (long ones) and figure out how to attach them to my axle.

Do the body first.

1- Its free(ish)

2- Easier to do with the truck on the ground

3- Will give you something to do while you wait on parts to come in

No name change- I like to keep things simple as possible

This will be a long-term buildup- I have a loooooong way to go yet.

But, the dovetail body mod will begin soon.
