I installed a Hooker Aero Chamber muffler on my 2000 Sport a couple weeks ago. After the first week, my fuel mileage went from 18.8 to about 19.5 mpg. I did a second check today after filling it up, and now it's increased to 20.3mpg. Apparently the PCM is still compensating for the lower exhaust restriction, since I didn't reset it after the muffler installation.....

Needless to say, I'm a happy camper with even this minor MPG improvement, considering the price of fuel nowdays. What MPG gains do you guys get with the Flowmasters, Magnaflows, Gibsons, etc.?
:burnout:

I didn't notice any. It all has to do with your driving style. The more performance parts I add, the harder I drive it. Right now I'm getting almost 17mpg with all the stuff I have. I doubt it's your computer learning it's just the conditions and how you're driving. You should've also reset your computer by unplugging the negative for 30 minutes.

after a few weeks, it has already recompensated fuel curves for itself, it does have its own ability to relearn on its own.....

i too, run into the part about, i would have better economy, but with the loud exhuast i like to hear it, so its petal to the metal all the time, and htis uses more gas....

Same here. I cannot seem to make myself ease on to the gas. My pedal sits on the floorboards pretty much every time I accelerate, cause I just gotta hear my exhaust. :D

If you unplug the computer instead of the battery, you won't loose all your radio presets and time settings.

:D He he, I know what you mean about wanting to press the pedal to hear the muffler. Even though the Hooker's not loud, it's got a sweet low pitched tone to it. I have to control myself and remember a fill-up costs over 30 bucks now..... :nono:

The PCM adaptive learning curve takes about 70 start cycles, so with 2 weeks of driving I'm probably just now getting through that. I figure maybe another 1/2 mpg or so will be the max I'll get from it. The mixture of city/highway driving has been about the same for the two weeks that I've checked the mileage, so it should be fairly accurate.

I'm considering a Hooker AC for my other vehicle, and just wondered if a Gibson or Magnaflow would give me even better mileage......?

Did you just add the muffler or do cat back piping too?

Al, I just replaced the muffler, and kept the stock tailpipe.

I thought about calling this thread "My Quest for 20". :D

When I put on the Flowmaster, my highway mpg jumped from an average of 18 to an average of 21. However, I didn't notice much difference just driving around town.

With new pipe you might even do better.
