Looking at purchasing me some new parts for my baby after working this weekend. Ive found a incedible price on some msn parts and woundering what kinda performance gains am I gonna get, or has anyone gotten these and felt a gain in throttle respone?
MSD-6A ignition controller
and
Blaster 2 Coil.

My Bro has the same setup but with a MSD disbributor, and unfortunitly, I didnt fell much of a gain, since his acura integra was already balls to the wall fast. (No rice joke's either) Well, Looking forward for some info, maybe like, which wires i should buy to use with? Thanks

I was wondering the same thing too. I was in Kragen this weekend and an MSD kit caught my eye. I haven't heard of a single Explorer with an ignition kit in it. Does anyone have any experience with one?

Ive only heard of a few people with ignition kits in... I think ony guy I talked to liked it, and said he had a mild improvement... but someone else had nothing but problems, and fried something.... :) But it wasnt an MSD... it was some other company... it was blue.. :)

hehe, hopefully mine works out alright. I think you are talking about jacobe ingnitions systems or something like that, they looked cheezy but mainly for offroad use only. Well, anybody with a ignition controller??

Pending on when Shipping gets here, ill post some pics.:D

Ford stock ingnition systems are one of the best made right out of the factory.I had a MSD in my mustang and it ended up frying everything.Jacobs are nice but high$:D

If you have an old flathead

The MSD system is real nice. I use one in my antique boat and have idled the engine at 400 rpm for hours under load at river celebrations without the usual plug fouling. Multiple spark is useless over a certain rpm. If you have a cam that gives you a rough idle, this might help. Why would anyone want to go back to a distributor.

88vert is right that Ford systems are very good out of the box. The only reason you'd need an aftermarket ignition system is for nitrous oxide or forced induction. I still run the stock ignition system, but with adjustable computer control.

I am sorry to say but your 92 4.0L has a DIS ignition system, the MSD 6a and Blaster coil are for older Ford's like the 2.9L with a ditributor and coil. Your OHV 4.0L uses the DIS Ford ignition with a coil 6 pack. MSD does make a DIS ignition, but it is PRICEY and your Ford DIS system is just as good. Skip it, spene the $$$$ elsewhere.........

The MSD DIS ignition may be good for supercharged 4.0L's thata are fully built or naturally aspirated 4.0L's that are fully built, camer engine. however the factory Ford DIS is good enough fo those too.......

FYI I had the MSD 6a Off road box and coil on my old 2.9L (speed density) and I loved it!!

Thanks guys for all your input. So I take it a MSD Ignition & Blaster 2 coil will not work with my 4.0. Cancalling it now :(

Thats right if you want MSD ignition for your 4.0L (and you dont the Ford DIS system is GREAT) then you want the $800+ MSD DIS system, or the Jacobs. But these are not needed unless you are running a HEAVILY built and modded 4.0L..........
