Mustang LSD??

I found a mustang LSD online. its an "8.8 31 spline for 79-05+ mustang".will this work on an 02 explorer open diff?

If it's the actual LS carrier then yes it probably will. If you're talking about the whole diff then no.

I don't know of anyone selling 31-spline CV-axles for the IRS in the Explorer/Monty.... The Diff should physically fit.. but I believe the stock cv-axles are std 28-spline units.

Rob, the rear CV axles for the 2002-2010 Explorer IRS are 31 Spline.

02dubs you should contact the manufacturer and make sure that LS unit can accept 31 spline CV axles with Circlips (not C-clips). If its for a solid axle 8.8 it may not work.

I don't know if the price on that unit that you are looking at is better than an Eaton Truetrac gear driven limited slip unit but the Eaton TrueTrac part number 913A561 will definitely work in the rear of the 2002-2010 trucks. Lots of info in this thread:

Old thread, but just swapped an LSD from an 03 Explorer 4x4 I found in the junk yard into my 2008 Eddie Bauer. Fit like a glove. Even left the speed sensor on. The diff was very well maintained. I pulled the whole axel at the yard, gutted it for the carrier and pinion and threw it in my original case. Now I have the HD pinion bearing with 3.73 LSD and a 4 bolt housing. Putting it on the road tomorrow to see how much smoke I can make.
