Good afternoon,

I would like to try a Meziere electric waterpump on my 1997 5.0 Explorer. One vendor thought that the Mustang 5.0 waterpump for 94-95 would fit and align with the stock belt and pulley system. See description:
(pic would not copy)

1994-1995 5.0 Electric Water Pump W/Idler.
Product ID: MZR-WP374

Just like our popular "Bolt-on" pump for the pre-94 5.0 stangs these new pumps bolt right on and use the factory belt routing. Pump also available without pulley. Please call.

Anybody know if this will interchange and replace the stock one?

The 94-95 stang drive is almost as short as the Explo but no quite as short. I think its off 1/4-1/2", cant remember the exact figure.

The Meziere has a tensioner so the stock belt route can be used. Sounds like the other pulleys might need an equal amount of extension .

If I remember correctly, the Mustang water pump is a different length than the Explorer pump, so it wouldn't work (belt would likely walk off the pulley). However, if you go with the pulley-less version and a shorter serpentine belt, it will work without a problem. The fun part will be finding the proper length belt....

Excellent advice. Thanks

Oh it was fun trying to finding one after I relocated my alternator to the bottom of the engine. Probably tried about 20 belts. Not fun.

FYI, if you need a belt length, measure the path with a string, and the tensioner held at its proper position.

Compare the string measurement with the original belt length, and then you will have information to relate when you measure the needed length. That will get you in the ballpark, instead of trial fitting several belts just to get in the ballpark. It will shorten the time spent trying different belts. Good luck,

Talked to the company Meziere- they tell me the idler is 2 inches wide and that the serpentine should work fine on this set-up. They also said using the product without the idler would reduce belt tension and lead to belt slip if all the accessories are attached, which they are. Order has been placed; will await my install next weekend. This weekend is to complete the water/alcohol injection system.

I'd like to see the complete install also.

Obviously, when deleting the mechanical water pump and it's associated pulley, the stock mechanical fan is removed. So, after a rather extensive search and consideration, I placed an order for a Perma-Cool 18" electric fan. Note that this is not the "Black Magic" variety that has a number of posts and member trials on this site. This was chosen for its increased CFM at 2500 and for a relatively low amp draw listed as 10. But, the size and design should easily bolt into the stock fan shroud with a little finesse and thus optimize air flow. I'll see about digital pics; for now here is the electric fan $109.99 at Jegs:

That's an interesting looking unit. Can it be installed in the stock shroud without attaching directly to the radiator?

Probably could, but vibration and stresses over time may crack the shroud as it is not made to support that type of force. So, the mounting bars may need to be elongated or shortend- won't know until I'm deep into it-to mount to the outside border of the radiator at firm support sites.

Just some follow-up info:

1. Meziere 94-95 5.0 Mustang electric water pump with the pulley/idler worked perfectly in size, fit, and function. Good water circulation.

2. Fan attached to radiator and eliminates need for the shroud (fan instructions recommend shroud removal also). No cooling problems.

Can you post a picture of the final install?

Excelent. This is just the info I'm looking for. What was the total cost of the package?

very good info
If I keep mine I'm doing that.
I was wondering if it would work, but wasn't brave enough to spend money to try.
cool very cool

If I remember correctly it's 7/16". On my 92 Ranger I started with a 95 GT crate motor but the A/C compressor hit the frame. I used a 97 Explorer driver's side accessory bracket and I had to shim the bracket about 7/16" for the pulleys to line up.
