hey y'all, I bought a 2004 Explorer XLT. It had 60K miles and was in great shape. First the blend door was out so about $700 to fix that cause I'm a girl without tools. Then a few minor things. In March ck engine came on cause I was at about 90k and time for checkup. I had a huge tune up replaced spark plugs/wires connector box/ air filters etc. ck engine lights went off. (Meanwhile I had had a few times where I'd start the car and huge clunk would happen when I turned on the AC. I could feel it and it was loud. But they didn't find anything). After the tune up, about three days ck engine light came back on, so I took it back. It was reading all kinds of issues. They reset it and it would go off then come back. And it was running really rough. I finally took it to the dealer and they found some bent pins on spark plug wires and re-set the computer. It lasted about a week, I took it back. It was saying, fuel door, computer, sensors and more. But they could not tell me what it was. They said drive it til it happens again! I did. It lasted a few weeks of no ck engine light. Then I filled up and the check gas cap light came on. On the way home I stopped for a minute to check the cap and it died. When I restarted it the ck engine light and gas cap light were on. My ford mechanic thought it was a fuel neck? Anyway the next time I started it up, there was a huge clunk and it would not start. When it did finally start, it was making a horrible ticking noise.
So I had I towed into the ford place. They said I need a new engine!!!!
1. Shouldn't someone had seen the engine going bad?
2. Could that have caused all the weird computer readings?
3. I think I want to replace the engine as I have gotten an offer of help with that (and not at the $5000 the ford dealer quoted me.)
4. What do we need to know and is common for that year, will it repeat if I buy another engine like it?
Thanks and sorry but I'm a single woman on social security and I need advice!
