So yesterday night I come home and I notice that the rear bumper has been hit, apparently by a white PU or SUV, I have white paint transfer and due to the height I don't think a car could have done it (too much CSI I know LOL) my camera's battery needs to be charged, so later on today I'll post the pics

This happened while parked, either at work, mall (I went for lunch) or at the dr's office, not cool!

I think the tail light guard took the hit, as the surrounding area looks warped:thumbdwn: I think it'll be cheaper to fix it my self than to pay the deductible from the insuranse co

I'd report it, and take the money, and fix it myself. It won't count against you since it was parked.

I'll check with my insurance agent, she's a friend of mine, she might suggest a good way for me to handle it.
I really have no idea what I'd need to fix it, as it doesn't really show that much damage, but the pieces are just kinda off, where bumper meets rear qtr, and the way that the tail light fits now, also something broke inside the tail light because it's loose in the bottom part

Yesterday I saw a lady back up into a Ram, just a little bump, so I went to check on the truck, her sentra did nothing to it, but I'd taken her plates if I though some damage was done to the truck, some people are just careless...

you can try and loosen off the bolt that go from the bumper to the frame, and see if you can re adjust it. if you are lucky, that's all it will need. with out pictures, its hard to say with out seeing pictures.

Sorry to hear about that man. The damage is most likely done to your bumper cover. The class III hitch behind the bumper cover actually is the bumper and is quite stout. Is your plastic bumper cover just kinked up or is your actual hitch bent too? If your hitch is bent too then that would have had to be a collision with some speed to do that kind of damage.

Looking forward to pictures...

Yeah I grabbed the camera on the way out today in the morning, but the battery is dead (it uses those specific ones, not like a AA) so I need to charge it when I get home and hopefully I'll still have daylight hehe

It's just the plastic cover, the paint on it doesn't even look damaged, but the cover looks off, I have never taken it off so not sure how it's fastened, maybe the bolt can be adjusted as VZB suggests.
What I'm worried the most about is the tail light, it's loose, so maybe the screw looking thing that grabs it broke, in which case IIRC I'll need to replace the whole assembly

if you think its just the cover on the top of the bumper, just give it a good whack with your fist downwards. they are held on with plastic barbs that go into slots on the top of the bumper.

Here are the pics

Paint transfer, it should buff out, right?

i took a hit to my passenger quater panel in a target parking lot cracking my tail light and denting and scratching about a 2 or 3 inch mark on the quater people are just morons

shoot.
that doesnt look bad at all.
yeah paint transfer will buff right out. I have used thinner to wipe it off some times too.

Worry not my friend.

Dude I am sorry to hear this, hey what about those mirrors? Did you ever work that out?

Mirrors are going on tomorrow hopefully, we have breakfast with the in laws, not sure what else hehe

So the paint transfer it's minor and I have some polish and wax, not a problem, but how do I go about straightening the other piece? is it held with screws? I haven't had a chance to take a look

And really it doesn't look that bad, if it wasn't for the paint transfer I wouldn't have noticed so fast

truth be known I have never been inside a third gen rear bumper.

Try just smacking the top back in place.
Usually things like that are just snapped in place.

Really.

Thanks all for your replies,
Yesterday I tried to buff the transfer out, part of it I took off, but not all was transfer :( the scratch is deep, so I'll need to get one of those touch up pens

I'm not sure I can hit it back into place, seems like something inside broke or if it was screwed the hole was made bigger, I'll take it off next weekend to see what I'm dealing with

The tail light didn't break as I had tought, but the part that holds the screw looking thing did, so I'll have to check at the body shop suppliers for that.... At least my tail light guard helped and sustained no damage

My sympathies...

My 1997 Ford Ranger was hit in the door while parked on the street. The damage was bad enough to bend the door out of shape. This happened to me yesterday, so I feel your pain. My insurance doesn't cover it (no-fault only) and my neighbor who I know hit it is completely useless, so it's no good asking her for insurance information. My question for anyone who might know is, "What model years are compatible with a 1997 Ford Ranger XLT with manual windows for buying a used driver side replacement door?"

I might have one from my 97 sport, if it fits your truck just pay shipping and it's yours, I'll have to check tonight when I get home, but I'm almost positive I kept it...

Damn! your too far away, might be cheaper for you to go to a local YJ not sure how much shipping would be from the very bottom to almost to the top of the US :p:
