My latest project: 1970 Dodge Dart 512 C.I. Bracket Racer

Some of you may remember that I used to have a 1972 Dodge Dart which I drag raced.

Well, I got the itch to get back into racing:burnout: Our new house is only 3 miles from the Speedworld racetrack and I can faintly hear them running the cars from our house. It was just too much for me to bare;) I haven't been doing much in the way of local fourwheeling, so I thought drag racing would give me something to do on the weekends.

A couple weeks ago I bought a 1970 Dodge Dart off of E-bay. The car was located in New Jersey, a mere 2500 miles from home:eek: I decided this was the right car for me mainly because I really needed to get out of the house on my own for a couple weeks and this was just the excuse I needed;)

The car is going to be stripped and repainted. It will get new quarter panels, at least one rocker, one floorpan, new door hinges, fiberglass hood, bumpers, and most likely trunk lid as well.

The new color will most likely be orange, but it just may end up being red, like my old one. Plans for it include a 650HP, 512 CI, big block Mopar and an automatic transmission. I'm just not sure if it will be from BB or SB or whether or not it will even be a Mopar:eek: I plan on ditching the torsion bar front suspension for an aftermarket K member which gives you rack and pinion steering, upgraded brakes, and the choice of coilover shocks or airbag suspension.

The rear end in the car right now is a trussed Mopar 8 3/4", with a three link suspension and coilovers.

123 mph 10.7 for sure and I would think even better later.

The shop got into my torque converter today. They couldn't believe they sent me that converter for my application since it was custom ordered. I have to wonder if they actually shipped someone else's converter to me:dunno:

Anyway, they aren't charging me to redo the converter. I just have to pay shipping both ways which seems fair to me. I should have the modified converter by the end of the week.

Can't wait to get the car running again!! My parents are coming over for Thanksgiving and I want to start the beast up for them:D:burnout:

Converter is in and the car is almost back together.

Damage report...

Left part of my scalp on the header collector and made a nice flap over one of my knuckles. Why they hell can't they make decent bandaids?? Even the big ones look they are only good for a large shaving cut:rolleyes:

They make special ones for knuckles and fingertips that work a lot better in those areas. And if not superglue works well.

I agree with Jeremy. I use Band-Aid Finger Care. They are designed for the hands/fingers and are fabric so they stand up well and stay on.

Bet you're glad to have her almost back together!!

Boy this is awkward. :wtf: It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt. :dunno:

I've got it!!! I need to cut a gauze pad which is nice and thick and absorbent, and stick it to some Gorilla tape. That would do the trick:D

I looked at the "finger aid" bandaids and they just don't look like they're up to the task of a pretty big gash.

I don't like the idea of using crazy glue since I don't want to trap any dirt in the wound. My usual routine is wash it out as best as I can, give it a shot of Neosporin, and wrap it tight so I can keep on working.

When I worked construction, my salvation was a few layers of toilet paper to cover whatever size wound, then wrap with duct tape.
Held up to almost anything!

I prefer electrical tape

gaff tape is way better than both of those.

Agreed. I've used that stuff to hold many band-aids on. Sticks to my sweaty, dirty hand, and then comes off without any problem when I want it to.

I'm depressed :( The modified converter didn't help. It's still flashing way too high. I made one pass and put it back on the trailer:banghead: This time I am going to do more troubleshooting. First check line pressure, adjust if necessary. If line pressure is ok, the tranny is coming out and I'm going to tear into it to see what I can see... If it all looks good, I'm going to buy another manufacturer's converter. I really don't want to, but if it's the converter, I won't have much faith left in the manufacturer who has had two shots at it now.

At least we remembered the camera. Char shot video and I grabbed a few still frames from it. The video itself is being uploaded to YouTube right now...

Don't worry about it, you will figure it out. Even with it revving too high, that is still one of the coolest cars I have ever seen.:p:

Did you look into getting a torque converter from TCI? They were around for many years manufacturing performance torque converters.

Now that this torque converter has been reworked and was given a clean bill of health, I'm really thinking that there is a problem with transmission pump, or a bad seal somewhere. Time to do a bit more troubleshooting before I throw any money at it. As is, I'm just out what it cost to ship the converter back and forth.

As for TCI, they're not considered to be a good choice for Mopars. A lot of companies build good converters for Chevy's and Ford's but very few do a good Mopar converter.

Hughes is right here in town, and has a good rep with Chevy guys. Every Mopar guy I've talked to has said to stay away from them.
