My stereo keeps searching for a CD.

I swapped out the cassette radio in my 96 ranger with a CD radio from a 99 explorer. When the radio is off the CD player is constantly looking for a CD. if I turn the radio on the radio plays for about 20 seconds then starts looking for a CD again. The wiring harness seemed to match is there a difference in the wiring between the cassette player and the CD radio?

If you put in a CD does it play allright? A cleaner disc might help.
