My transmission fluid is very dark.

:exp: My Explorer '95 has 86000 miles on it. It runs great however, the transmission fluid has become slightly darker and has a hint of burnt smell. When I switch to parking gear on a slope, the vehicle moves a few inches (one or two). Some people say just keep driving until transmission ceases to function.
My question is: would flushing and refilling of the fluid do any good?

Welcome to this forum! I've renamed, and moved your thread to the transmission section. Never drive with such dirty fluid. Why would you wait until the transmission dies when you could replace the fluid, and the filter, and possibly save it?

I'd drain it ASAP. I wouldn't pay someone big money to do it but a 10 quarts or whatever it holds doesn't cost that much.
