Have a 2017 w/Sync3 - cannot locate how to adjust the guidance volume - does anyone know where in the menus this is? Navigation basically whispers at me.

Do the volume controls on the steering wheel or the radio affect that at all? I just scanned though the Manual and didn't see anything on that issue.

When the navigation is speaking, raise the normal volume. Once the navigation is talking, the volume control is directed toward that.

Cool, thanks. Will give that a whirl - every other car I've had has had it in the menus somewhere. :)

When the volume is loud enough to hear the navigation a phone ring will blast you out of the car. Anyone have a solution?

The only answer to increasing navigation volume is the one thefranchise713 gave. If this increases the phone ringer volume, I'd suggest try turning the ringer volume down on the phone. I don't drive with navigation on enough to confirm if my ringer gets louder when I increase the Nav volume, nor if it rings quieter if I turn down the ringer volume on the phone.

Does anyone know if there is a way to completely turn off the navigation audio?

I've been able to turn off the voice guidance, so it plays the tones only (ding... dong... beep...), and I've been able to turn the volume of the tones down to their minimum level, but they will not turn off completely.

As a result, while listening to music, or on a phone call, every time the nav prompts you to make a turn (which seems to be a minimum of 2-3 times for every turn... the Sync3 nav functionality is great, but it nags worse than an overbearing mother-in-law), the system automatically lowers the volume of the music/phone call so it can play it's tones loud (or soft, if you've turned their volume down) and clear.

I'm hoping there is a way to disable this, and I can just have factory nav guidance on screen, and zero audio interruption... much like when I hit the "mute" button when using google maps turn-by-tun on the iPhone.

Having your favorite song, or important phone call fade out, then back in, 3 different times over the course of a minute and a half, just because you're about to change freeways, is excessive. It's only been a week and I'm ready to go back to using my iPhone for nav because of this.

Cheers,

Mike

With MFT there is a button on screen to mute it, not sure with SYNC3, I dont have nav on my SYNC3.

Looks like it's a nav menu option... not a nav settings option. Just pulled this from Ford's website:

Use the touchscreen to mute navigation voice:
  • Once you have set a Destination, press the Menu icon and then press the Mute Guidance icon.
I blame the multiple menus... and my apparent blindness/inability to find them all. LOL

Don't mind me... please carry on. :banghead:

It's also mentioned in your Manual.

I'm sure it is... Unfortunately, while sitting at work, at a computer, the Ford website and this forum are much more easily accessible than my manual.

Next time, I'll be sure to exhaust every search option available to me, before joining an existing dialogue with other helpful individuals who own similar vehicles. That way I can avoid a pointless "RYFM" from a mod, after I realize the error in my ways.

Sorry to inconvenience you.

The Manual is also downloadable or accessible from the computer. In fact it is much easier to find things that way. No way of knowing where you were when you posted. The system isn't that sophisticated yet. Just trying to be helpful. No inconvenience.:)

To change the volume on only the Nav guidance you must increase/decrease the volume while the guidance is being spoken. The volume circle that comes on the screen at that time says "Prompt" and not "Audio". This only affects the guidance volume.

When you do that, the phone rings and blasts you out of the car. Twice I have called customer service regarding this issue - the best response I got was take your car to your local ford service. Ford has a problem they are not addressing, may look elsewhere on my next purchase.

Remember you are comparing Sync 2 to Sync 3 here. Perhaps the Sync 3 is different in that regard.:dunno:

Peter, I'm not comparing anything. Ford has a problem with volume control. I don't care what Sync system it is if Ford has a problem it needs to be fixed. I expect better from a $45000 vehicle.

You are comparing systems in a way. You have Sync 2 and the instructions you quoted were for Sync 3. All I was attempting to point out was that perhaps the two are different in regards to the volume settings.

My last post on this forum. Peter you have no clue what the problem is. I'll put up with this until my next purchase.

I think the problem is that there is a perceived difference in the evenness of the levels for the different areas like phone, navigation voice, stereo etc. Talk will always be lower than phone or music so you can't universally set the same level.

In our 2011 Explorer, with Sync 2, there was a adjustment for the Navigation voice prompt volume in the settings, but I don't think you could've adjusted just that with the steering wheel controls. I think the steering wheel volume controls actually were tied to increasing/decreasing all the volumes collectively including the voice prompt. As such, it makes sense that if you increased the volume on the steering wheel to increase the voice prompt, that the phone would be loud when it rang, and the stereo would also be loud if it came on.

In our 2017 Explorer, with Sync 3, the voice prompt is adjustable from the steering wheel when the "prompt" notification is indicated, but I feel even at the highest volume level, the voice prompt is hard to hear, especially when wind noise is present because of open windows or moonroof.
