i have a 97 4 wheel drive with the 4.0 engine. Lately when I turn off the engine I get 3 buzs and the park lights and instrument lights and check engine light also flash 3 times. Sometimes it does it when im driving also. Then some mornings I go out and the battery is dead. Battery and alternator are good so Im suspecting some sensor or relay somewhere. I can turn it off and it does its clicking and flashing issues, then start it up again the doors will lock and unlock. Ive checked fuses and stuff and cant get this issue resolved. Thanks for the help in advance.

Check the sticky (the instructional threads above this) on keyless entry. You can try unplugging the battery for 10 minutes and see if it resets an alarm code.

The alarm may be trying to tell you something like a sensor failure. Are all other lock and alarm related things normal?

Yes everything else is fine. This doesnt happen everytime. It happens for a while and then stops. Ive also been driving and heard the clicking sound. Strange.

Maybe the voltage is low due to a corroded ground chassis ground strap or dead cell in the battery.

Update

Heres an update. It doesnt do this all the time. It goes awhile and then comes back. I can hit a bump and here a clicking noise and the park and interior lights will flash. But mostly does it when I shut it off. Now for the first time today when I turned it off the lights kept flashing and wouldnt stop. pulled every fuse to try to find the issue. The only fuse that would kill the blinking lights was the 60 amp ignition fuse under the hood. The only thing I have replaced in the last year or so was the crank position sensor. This didnt start ubtil I changed that. Is that the issue?? I dont know. Any ideas would be help im out of ideas. Thanks

park lamp relay... maybe... but check it with a meter.

Checked relays with know working ones. Today they actually blinked constatly while I was driving. I hit a bump and they quit but still do it when I turn the vehicle off. Having to disconnect the battery or leave ignition on to keep lights from blinking. This is so strange.

well "checking with a meter" doesn't actually only mean "looking at the relay only"... you do check the actual circuit / wiring for various "conditions"... swapping doesn't really "cut it". Further where is the "park lamp relay" in 97????? Good luck

hello, I was wondering if you had any word on fixing this? My friend is having the same problem with his 97. It has been sitting for almost a year, we just put a used starter on it.

It flashes when we connect the battery a few times and then stops and then starts flashing again after a few. when we try to start it and when it is started, it does the same thing. it starts and stops flashing while we are driving it also.

We haven't tried a new battery yet, but we will be soon.
