- 1997 Mercury Mountaineer
Hey guys,
I've had this 1997 Mountaineer 5.0/4R70W since November, the thing runs, and drives absolutely flawless. However, every once in a while, when I go to give it WOT, it fails to shift down. You can hear that exhaust roar loudly, but the get up and go is non-existent, because it doesn't shift down.
This only happens about 1 in 10 times when going to WOT.
Don't get me wrong, I don't beat on her, but there are times on the interstate where you just have no other choice. ( And you like the sound of that 5.0 )
It was pretty embarrassing today, had my entire family in it for the first time, and they wanted to see what it would do, so I hammered it after leaving a toll-booth, and she got loud, but that was about it, she didn't shift below 3rd. I'm really hoping it's not a big problem, as I just started a new job, and can't afford to fix it right now.
