[Old gear rio] * [new tire diam] / [old tire diam] ... this has been covered many times.

You can figger this using percents. The difference between 33 inch and 31 inch tires is 33 - 31, or 2 inches. 2 divided by 31 is 0.0645, or, 6%.

Use a DRIVEN gear with 6% MORE TEETH, or a DRIVE gear with 6% LESS TEETH.

For example, if the DRIVEN gear has 18 teeth, you need one with 18 + .06 times 18, or 19.08 teeth. A 19 tooth would be perfect.

Or, DRIVE gear: if it has 9 teeth, use one with 9 divided by 6% of 9, or 8.4 teeth; best you cpould do would be 8.

If you can't get it this way, changing only one gear, then you might as well use the ratio method above. imp
