I have 4 days to get my explorer into the emissions test before I get fined 20.00 late fee.
My brother inlaw helped me find tha OBD-II trouble code PO141. The code tells me I have to change or find a problem with the Downstream heated O2 sensor (Bank 1, sensor 2). Can anyone pinpoint the location of this sensor for me or point me in the right direction. My manual only shows oproxamet location for 6 cyl. I have 1997 8cyl. I think Bank 1 means same side as cyl. 1 and sensor 2 means after cat??

Hi

In the link that I posted above, someone had the exact same code as you do, PO141. That code is telling you that there is a problem with the heater circuit in the Oxygen sensor.

There are 3 possibilities:

1. The oxygen sensor is bad because the heater element is not working.(This is the most likely problem.)

2. The wiring to the sensor is bad, and that is making the PCM (computer) believe that the heater is not working.

3. There is a problem with the PCM. (This is the least likely problem.)

The particular oxygen sensor is Bank 1, after the catalytic converter. I believe this is on the drivers side, behind the catalytic converter.

As mentioned in the other link, check the wiring first for damage, if it looks ok, then it is probably the oxygen sensor.
