My 99 explorer auto 4x4 was making loud shuddering along with a temporary disengagement of the gears while driving 40 to 50 mph. this happened a month ago and it hasn't happened until last night a block from home. It shuddered, came out of gear and made loud whining noise as I accelerated. When I came to a stop and put it into park it made loud whinning grinding noises as I went through the gears to park. I then tried to put ito gear and again loud whinning noises and grinding. I was able to get it home today by putting it into 4 wheel low it engaged without whinning and grinding . Please! Can anyone tell me what this is.
