I have a 91 4x4 4.0 manual explorer and my gas gauge stopped working. I've checked the fuse under the dash and replaced the sending unit and all more. Then once and it won't work. When I first start it up it goes to full then if it sits or as I drive it drops past E. Can someone tell what else to check please. Thanks in advance.

Did you replace the sending unit yourself, or have it done somewhere?

I edited your thread title to be more specific, hope you don't mind.

That seems to be what mine did before it stopped working completely. Seems the most common problem I found doing a search her is the Fuel float in the gas tank gets fuel inside of it and sinks. I replaced the whole assembly float and pump last weekend the float did have fuel in it. My gauge works again but I feel its still not reacting accurately I bought one of them cheap pumps. I purchase a replacement float a plastic one shaped like the OEM brass type. I am going to put the old OEM pump back in since the pump worked fine just needed a new float. So will see if that works better..
