1993 explorer xlt 4x4
i have a 1993 explorer xlt 4x4 that is havin some idle and running issues

when it sits and idles, my whole engine rocks occasionally and when listenin to the tail pipe, it sounds like there is a misfire or something. i went through and cleaned the throttle plate and throttle body, the idle air control valve and MAF. brand new air filter, spark plugs and cables. one thing i have noticed is that one of my fuel injectors clicks extremely loud and im thinkin maybe its broke or something but i just had the whole engine tuned so they cleaned the entire engine. im up to any suggestions so please let me know

mine is doing something similar.. but mine has been sitting 9 months with stale gas.. mine sounds like it has a missfire, and it has a slight popping sound coming from the exhaust pipe, occasionally the motor will rock around but not that bad.. i havent realy looking in to it yet, i plan to do a complete service on it,replacing the plugs, wires, air cleaner ect.. cleaning the sensors, replace the cat convtr .

as for the clicking sound, idk what that would be , but when i first start mine i hear a clicking sound then it goes away .
if you think its a fuel injector, you should replace it.

yeah mine doesnt pop at all at the exhaust pipe but i just had a full engine tune up so i dont think its any sensors or anything cause its nots throwin any codes... but im lookin into replacin the injector

Check for any cracks in the intake tube from the MAF to the TB. The tube is prone to cracking after many years of use.

Pick up a stethoscope and listen to the injectors before you decide that's what it is. Plus it could come in handy to listen for any more strange sounds in the future that could come up.

Maybe the ignition coil is having an issue.

My navajo was having a similar issue a while back and it turned out the rubber gasket that goes between the air tube and throttle body had basically fell apart. I couldn't find a replacement so I used some thin high temp rubber gasket and glued it to the throttle body with some 3M gasket adheasive and put the clamp back on. I haven't had a problem with it since then.

yeah i have listened to the injector and am pretty sure thats what it is because i just had new spark plug wire put in and had the ignition coil tested and it worked fine so...my intake hose is fine, but im still looking for a cold air intake to replace my stock one but cant find one other than K&N and i dont have that money so

I made my own. I got my hands on a accord/ integra (90-93) intake tube for free. I used (all spectre parts) the 90* bend off the TB, the honda tube, a 5.0 MAF sensor housing(JY from a mercury cougar) w/ 4.0 sensor, and a filter.

Between the filter, and the 90* tube and silicone connections/ clamps, I have less than $40 in a "CAI". I put it in quotes because it's more hot air than cold. Don't expect some crazy gains in power if you put one on. This won't give you some amazing power, I did mine because I wanted to.... not because I was looking for extra power.

Now I did have to fab up a brace to support the MAF sensor to keep the tube from rubbing on the alternator pulley. I used a 2x6 brace and used my imagination to make it work.

im just hopin to maybe improve my gas mileage a little bit atleast but idk...no one seems to be able to tell me anything about my rig so

well expect to get 16-18mpg in town and 21-23 on highway. Those are the figures set by whoever does that crap. Mine is giving me 16.5 in town, which is up from the 14 in town when I first got it.

If you have a leaking injector that could the the issue w/ fuel economy. Honestly you haven't given us much to work with.... we all have given a few approaches to the situation, now we're kinda waiting on your findings.

yeah i know i havent been givin much here cause its hard to explain it and i cant give the exact problems...but i meant with the shops around here..i had a couple different places tell me they have no idea what it is because its not throwin any codes to them or they have no idea what im talkin about when i explain it to them...im upset with the shops not the forum..its been helpin me alot so

yeah i dont think its an intake gasket because ive tried the spray carb cleaner around the intake manifold base and it doesnt do anything... and im not blowin white smoke out the tailpipe so

thanks cribb...im leakin anitfreeze anywhere either because i just changed the oil and it was fine and im not using up any antifreeze at all...im just gettin tired of tryin to find it lol i still think it could be an injector but i tried to pull one at the junk yard to see if i could but theres way too many things to get to it even so
