Lockers????

I have a '92 explorer 4x4, 3" BL, 5.5" Superlift suspension,33x12.50 X-Terrains. It is a very worthy truck offroad but I want it to perform a little better. I heard that by adding lockers to just the rear will help out alot. Anyone know a fairly inexpensive good way for me to do this, Is this something I sould leave to the professionals or is there some kind of do it yourself kit avalible? Also I want to be able to disengage this feature for highway use is that possible?

:) Thank You :)

If you do a Search, you'll find lots of info and Forum members that have installed the PowerTraxx NoSpin "lunch-box" locker. It is not selectable but does work well in an "unlocked" attitude (on pavement) and "locked" attitude (off-road). It's also relatively inexpensive compared to an e-locker or air locker (like Eaton or ARB). If you want a testimonial, ask GJarrett, he has them installed front & rear. Other members have them installed and could certainly provide valuable feedback.

powertrax noslip all the way. It's awesome. My wife regularly drives the truck a few times a week, and other than occasionally chirping tires around corners, doesn't even notice it. With a slightly lighter foot going around turns that won't happen. If you are going straight and tromp on it and then turn without letting up, you're gonna chirp the tires.
On wet/snowy/icy roads, the powertrax is SOO much better than either open differentials or limited slips.
I don't have any experience with other locking differentials, but I can say this. I converted the truck from 2wd to 4wd years ago. If I'd have put the rear locker in 1st, I may not have ever converted to 4wd. It's that much of a difference. Hope this helps.

If you need to go cheap, install a LuchBox (Detriot EZ) in the front. It will only be active in 4WD but it will prevent you from using 4WD on road. I know people with rear lockers and they all have rappid tire wear and less-than-friendly reactions in parking lots etc. The Eaton ELocker is only a little over $500 which is close to the price of the Tractec. My Ez only cost $230 and has been pulling 37 Boggers for over 5 years now.

Thanx alot everyone for the feedback, all this info gives me alot to go on hopefully I can be of assistance to you guys one day. :)
