I have to get new u-bolts to put my new-to-me (thanks Michael) 8.8 into my Ranger. The old 8.8 is 3" (?) dia, and the new one is 3 1/4", so the old ones won't fit. There's a spring shop nearby that can bend up whatever size I want.
My question is, should I get them made from 5/8" bolt, or stay with the 1/2" that is stock? I have to fab up new u-bolt/springplates anyway, so I can go with either size. It will be the same price either way. Is there a good reason to use 5/8"? Anyone else use it?
